When I was a professional organizer about 20 years ago, I often heard colleagues say, “It’s never about the stuff.” To be honest, I didn’t really get it. I knew our work involved more than sorting and storing possessions, but I didn’t fully appreciate how much our clients’ thoughts, emotions, beliefs, and habits influenced their ability to get organized.
Now I understand that lasting change isn’t just about finding the right organizing system, it’s about helping people overcome the mental and emotional barriers that keep them stuck. But no one gets that more than the organizers who read this blog!
So, for this month’s Productivity & Organizing Blog Carnival, I invited them to submit their blog posts about The Organized Mindset. In response, I received an amazing collection of posts covering decision fatigue, emotional attachment to possessions, limiting beliefs, and other mental roadblocks that stand in the way of lasting organization, and I’m happy to share the wonderful list of contributions that you see below.
As you read, you may wish to share your favorite posts with your follower, leave comments, and connect with the bloggers on social media. It’s a great way to provide your audience with great content while growing your network!
Thanks to everyone who contributed this month!

Wow, this one is jam packed!
I’m looking forward to reading the posts that are new to me. There really is so much to the “mindset” part of getting and staying organized. Things are activities are an extension of ourselves, so it makes sense that we might feel strongly about them.
Great topic this month!
Thanks, Seana – I was really pleased at how many people jumped on this topic – including yourself!
